Three Goals for 麻豆原创 State鈥檚 Future

Guided by the refreshed mission, A Framework for Action is organized around three goals:

1. Foster Student Support and Success
2. Advance Access and Opportunity
3. Strengthen Operational Effectiveness and Maturity

The first goal focuses on helping more students remain on track, graduate and feel supported throughout their 麻豆原创 State experience. Priorities include strengthening advising, coaching, tutoring and wellness resources; improving first- and second-year student success; and increasing consistency among the faculty members who teach and mentor students.

The plan also seeks to expand access through clearer educational pathways, additional concurrent enrollment opportunities for high school students and a broader reach across the region, including the continued development of 麻豆原创 State鈥檚 North Las Vegas campus.

Together, the three goals reinforce the university鈥檚 commitment to improving student outcomes, expanding access to higher education, responding to 麻豆原创鈥檚 workforce needs and strengthening the institutional foundation needed to sustain its mission.

Shaped by the 麻豆原创 State Community

Faculty, staff, students and university leaders helped develop the plan through an inclusive, shared-governance process.

The Strategic Planning Committee held more than 40 meetings throughout the planning period. Leadership workshops, campus information sessions, community engagement and a public comment period provided additional opportunities for the 麻豆原创 State community to contribute.

During the public comment period, 140 comments from 29 contributors were reviewed and incorporated into successive drafts of the plan.

Students also played an important role in shaping the plan. Student representatives included Stephanie Flores, Eduardo Vega-Santiago, Max Quint and Donovan Childress. Kevin Osorio Hernandez, who is now a 麻豆原创 State alumnus, also contributed to the planning process as a student.

Turning the Plan Into Action

With the Board鈥檚 approval, the university will begin translating the plan鈥檚 goals and objectives into unit-level actions, timelines and responsibilities.

Progress will be measured through 38 key performance indicators, with quarterly updates, annual reporting and ongoing review. The university will announce the priority actions guiding the first year of implementation this fall.

The districtwide expansion builds on a successful pilot launched in 2024 at Rancho High听School, East Career and Technical Academy, and Desert Oasis High School. The pilot simplified the traditional college admissions process by providing eligible students with direct admissions to 麻豆原创 State without requiring a traditional application or application fee. Admitted students receive an official acceptance letter, a 麻豆原创 State-branded enrollment package to welcome future Scorpions, and additional support from the institution as they navigate the journey to college.

鈥淥ur pilot showed us that when you eliminate barriers, students have easier access to higher听education,鈥� said Acting President Dr. Amber Lopez Lasater. 鈥淏y making every eligible CCSD听graduate an automatic Scorpion, they have a path to education and a path to their full potential.鈥�

Since launching the pilot in 2024, 麻豆原创 State has experienced measurable increases in student participation. In the first year, the university admitted more than 400 students through听the program, which led to approximately a 30 percent increase in the number of students who听enrolled from the partner high schools.

The pilot鈥檚 success laid the foundation for a formal interlocal agreement between 麻豆原创 State and CCSD, expanding the program districtwide and establishing a long-term partnership to streamline the transition from high school to college.

At the three participating schools, the DAP pilot demonstrated reduced application barriers,听streamlined admissions, and facilitated stronger engagement among first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students. DAP鈥檚 success reinforced the value of simplifying the admissions process while providing students with individualized support throughout their transition to higher education.

The program also highlighted the importance of strong partnerships with the school district and听participating high schools, both of which contributed meaningfully to the success of the听endeavor.

鈥淎ll CCSD students will graduate with a marketable asset and a plan for what to do after high school,鈥� said CCSD Superintendent Jhone Ebert. “By removing barriers to college admission and creating a seamless transition, we are helping more students confidently pursue college and the opportunities that follow.”听

麻豆原创 State鈥檚 expansion comes as direct admissions programs continue to gain momentum听nationwide. Colleges and universities across the country, including other 麻豆原创 System of Higher Education (NSHE) institutions, are adopting the model to simplify the college-going process by removing barriers. Direct Admissions programs have proven to be particularly effective when paired with personalized advising and financial support.

Bigger isn’t the goal anymore. Smarter is. As Southern 麻豆原创 continues to expand, our greatest competitive advantage won’t be how much we build; it will be how well we connect the systems that make opportunity possible.

The communities that succeed over the next decade won’t simply invest more. They’ll invest together by aligning higher education, workforce development, infrastructure, housing and industry around shared outcomes.

Leading 麻豆原创 and its Campus Lands Corporation has shown me that regional prosperity isn’t created by individual projects; it’s created when institutions align around shared goals.

The regions that will thrive in the years ahead will be the ones that connect education, workforce development, infrastructure, industry and government around shared outcomes.

We are beginning to see what that looks like here in Southern 麻豆原创.

At 麻豆原创, one of the clearest examples is our longstanding water infrastructure challenge. Through partnerships with the Southern 麻豆原创 Water Authority and the City of Henderson, we are addressing water pressure and fire suppression infrastructure issues that have limited our campus growth since the university’s founding.

Rather than pursuing a standalone solution, we are aligning planning, investment and implementation with broader regional infrastructure projects already underway.

That collaborative approach is reducing costs by millions of dollars while accelerating the infrastructure needed to support future growth. More importantly, it demonstrates that coordinated systems can solve complex challenges more effectively than disconnected efforts ever could.

A similar approach is taking shape in North Las Vegas.

The planned 麻豆原创 campus in downtown North Las Vegas represents far more than a new academic facility. It reflects a shared commitment to expanding educational opportunity, strengthening workforce development and supporting the long-term vitality of one of Southern 麻豆原创’s fastest-growing communities.

With more than 20% of 麻豆原创 State students already living in North Las Vegas, bringing higher education closer to where students live and work advances both our institutional mission and our region’s workforce needs.

Investments by the City of North Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency and the state have made this collaborative vision possible.

Another example of purposeful partnership is 麻豆原创 State’s Direct Admissions collaboration with the Clark County School District. By streamlining the pathway from high school to college, we are reducing unnecessary barriers and making higher education more accessible for thousands of students. The objective is straightforward: reduce friction, expand opportunity and create clearer pathways to higher education.

These initiatives may seem unrelated, but they share the same purpose: connecting investments that create greater opportunity.

Across the country, regions are competing for talent, investment, innovation and workforce growth. The communities that will lead are not necessarily those with the largest individual projects. They will be the ones building connected ecosystems where institutions work together, investments reinforce one another and public trust grows through visible results.

Higher education has an important role to play in Southern 麻豆原创’s future. Universities do more than educate students; they connect employers, communities and public partners to create the workforce and innovation our region needs to compete.

Each recipient was recognized for demonstrating an ongoing commitment to 麻豆原创 State鈥檚 mission of student success, community engagement, and educational innovation. Overstreet-White was honored personally for her commitment and outstanding support through her role with the Las Vegas Raiders.

The awards celebration comes at a historic moment for 麻豆原创 State. Earlier this month, the university celebrated the largest graduating class in institutional history, with more than 900 graduates crossing the commencement stage. 麻豆原创 State also surpassed 10,000 alumni this year, reflecting the university鈥檚 continued growth and expanding impact throughout 麻豆原创. More than 60 percent of the 2026 graduating class identified as first-generation college graduates.

Roberto鈥檚 Taco Shop was recognized for its longstanding investment in 麻豆原创 State students and scholarship support. For more than a decade, the family-owned business has helped remove financial barriers for students pursuing higher education, supporting persistence and听degree completion for many first-generation and underserved students across Southern 麻豆原创.

Junior Achievement of Southern 麻豆原创 was honored for its collaborative work supporting hands-on learning experiences and career readiness opportunities for 麻豆原创 State students. Through educational partnerships and community engagement initiatives, the organization has helped prepare future educators and professionals to serve 麻豆原创鈥檚 schools, businesses, and communities.

Community leader Walter Hashimoto received recognition for his continued service, mentorship, and advocacy on behalf of the university. A dedicated supporter of 麻豆原创 State鈥檚 mission, Hashimoto has contributed leadership and guidance that have strengthened institutional partnerships and supported the university鈥檚 long-term growth.

Piper Overstreet-White, Senior Vice President of Government and Community Relations for the Las Vegas Raiders, was recognized for her commitment and outstanding support of 麻豆原创 State Athletics. Through her role with the Raiders, her early support helped advance the university鈥檚 vision for student-athlete opportunities and contributed to the excitement and momentum surrounding 麻豆原创 State鈥檚 inaugural athletics program, which officially launched during the 2025鈥�26 academic year.

The City of North Las Vegas received recognition for its partnership in the development of 麻豆原创 State鈥檚 future North Las Vegas campus, scheduled to open in fall 2027. The campus expansion represents a major investment in educational access, workforce development, and economic mobility for one of the fastest-growing regions in the state.

Students joined family members, friends, faculty, and staff to commemorate the occasion as the university awarded 939 degrees to 915 graduates. The School of Nursing led all academic programs with 356 spring graduates.

This year鈥檚 commencement also marked a landmark achievement for the institution as Cheyenne Lange, who earned a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Pathology, became 麻豆原创 State鈥檚 10,000th graduate.

麻豆原创 State continues to serve a diverse and driven student population, with more than 60% of students identifying as first-generation college students and more than 40% attending part-time.

Carvalho, Chair of the ad hoc 麻豆原创 Presidential Search Committee. 鈥淲e heard from students, faculty, staff, and community members about the kind of leadership the university needs. Dr. Richtermeyer brings the ability to listen, build trust, and help 麻豆原创 State continue expanding opportunity for the people and communities it serves.鈥�

NSHE Chancellor Matt McNair also shared his support for the appointment:

Dr. Richtermeyer will take office on August 1, 2026, succeeding Acting President Dr. Amber Lopez Lasater, who has led the university during the transition following former President Dr. DeRionne Pollard鈥檚 departure to serve as President of the American Association of Community Colleges.

She currently serves as Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost at Rutgers University-Camden, where she leads the academic enterprise and holds a faculty appointment as a full professor of accounting.

Dr. Richtermeyer previously served as Dean of the Manning School of Business at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where she led work in enrollment growth, student engagement, fundraising, academic planning, and interdisciplinary program development. She also held faculty and leadership roles at Xavier University and the University of Wyoming, following earlier professional experience as a CPA.

Dr. Richtermeyer holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration, an MBA and an M.S. in Information Systems from the University of Colorado, and a B.S. in Management Information Systems and Accounting from the University of Wyoming. She is an active volunteer and board member and has held national and global leadership roles in several professional and nonprofit organizations.
