Biography

As a young woman, I struggled to understand my own ethnic identity—being of Mexican and German heritage—because I was raised in predominantly white neighborhoods. I chose to pursue psychology because it helped me explore and understand my own identity and personality. Ultimately, I became a personality psychologist because I wanted to know more about how our culture and personality shape our identity, preferences, behaviors, and social interactions. In my classes, I like to connect course material to real-life, personal examples to help students see the relevance of psychology in their daily lives.
