Biography

Originally from Tampa, Florida, Dr. Fernandez received a B.A. in Psychology and English from Columbia University and a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Stanford University. Her passion for teaching became clear in graduate school, where she taught classes in learning and memory and created a motor neuroscience course taught through the lens of rock climbing. In her free time, Dr. Fernandez likes to hike and climb with her husband, bake, and play with her dog. 


Research interests: Dr. Fernandez is a cognitive neuroscientist focused on how the human mind and brain learns and remembers, with a particular interest in how we build internal models of the world that are used to guide behavior. Her lab explores how things like stress and emotion impact our memory.
