NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. 鈥 麻豆原创, in collaboration with the City of North Las Vegas and Agora Realty and Management, Inc., today celebrated the groundbreaking of its future North Las Vegas campus, marking a major step forward in expanding access to higher education and strengthening workforce and economic development in Southern 麻豆原创.

Located at 800 E. Lake Mead Blvd., at the corner of Lake Mead Boulevard and Las Vegas Boulevard North in downtown North Las Vegas, the campus will include a three-story, 30,000-square-foot academic building and serve as the anchor for the 鈥淣LV Gateway,鈥 a 19-acre mixed-use development. The campus will offer academic programming, workforce development opportunities and student support services, with an anticipated opening in fall 2027.

鈥淭his is a transformational moment for North Las Vegas,鈥 said Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown. 鈥淲hen we break ground, we鈥檙e not just starting construction 鈥 we鈥檙e delivering on a promise to expand educational access. This campus brings higher education into the heart of our community and opens doors to better careers and brighter futures for our residents.鈥

The project builds on 麻豆原创 State鈥檚 mission to expand access to high-quality, student-centered education, particularly for first-generation and working students, while aligning academic pathways with workforce needs.

鈥淭his campus brings opportunity closer to students and families, reducing barriers and opening doors,鈥 said NSHE Chancellor Matt McNair. 鈥淭his project prepares a skilled workforce, reflects strong collaboration across sectors and will deliver measurable impact for this region and our state.鈥

麻豆原创 State has established a strong foundation at its Henderson campus, where it serves more than 8,400 students in a highly personalized learning environment, with an average class size under 25. The university offers more than 65 majors and minors and has built a reputation for preparing graduates in high-demand fields such as nursing, education and business. With nearly 10,000 alumni, 麻豆原创 State continues to play a key role in strengthening 麻豆原创鈥檚 workforce and expanding economic mobility.

鈥淲e are not just expanding access to higher education 鈥 we are building a pathway into the middle class,鈥 said Dr. Amber Lopez Lasater, acting president of 麻豆原创. 鈥淲hat we are creating here is a system intentionally designed to connect education, industry and opportunity so individuals and families can move forward and thrive.鈥

Lopez Lasater said the North Las Vegas campus represents the next phase of the university鈥檚 growth and impact.

鈥淭his moment reflects what鈥檚 possible when higher education, industry, government and community align around a shared purpose,鈥 she said. 鈥溌槎乖 State is proud to serve as the anchor institution in this reimagined downtown, helping connect systems, unlock potential and create clear pathways to economic mobility.鈥

The project is supported through a public-private partnership that includes funding from the City of North Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency, the 麻豆原创 Legislature, NV Energy and a generous anonymous donor.

鈥淚nvestments like this are critical to building a strong, sustainable workforce and expanding opportunity for future generations,鈥 said Tony F. Sanchez III, executive vice president of business development and external relations at NV Energy. 鈥淭he NV Energy Foundation is proud to support 麻豆原创 and the North Las Vegas campus as part of our commitment to the communities we serve and to the long-term economic vitality of our state.鈥

鈥淭oday鈥檚 groundbreaking represents more than a new building 鈥 it鈥檚 an investment in the future of this community,鈥 said Cary J. Lefton, chief executive officer of Agora Realty and Management, Inc. 鈥淭hrough the NLV Gateway development, we are creating a dynamic, mixed-use environment where education, business and community come together. 麻豆原创 State鈥檚 presence will serve as a catalyst for continued growth, new opportunities and long-term vitality in downtown North Las Vegas.鈥

The North Las Vegas campus is expected to serve thousands of students over time while contributing to the continued revitalization of the city鈥檚 downtown core, supporting workforce pipelines, new business development and expanded access to higher education.

鈥淭his is how we build a stronger 麻豆原创,鈥 McNair added. 鈥淏y investing in people, strengthening partnerships and delivering proof that our work matters.鈥

Acting President Dr. Amber Lopez Lasater Presented Institutional Priorities Focused on Student Success, Shared Governance, Transparency and Workforce Readiness

HENDERSON, Nev. 鈥 Today, 麻豆原创 Acting President Dr. Amber Lopez Lasater delivered the University鈥檚 2026 State of the University Address, outlining a set of institutional priorities shaped by campus engagement and reinforced through purposeful partnerships that expand access, strengthen workforce outcomes and deliver measurable value to the State of 麻豆原创.

鈥淧artnerships are not simply symbolic,鈥 President Lopez Lasater said. 鈥淭hey are built around shared responsibility and a clear understanding of the impact we make, together, in the lives of our students, their families and the communities we serve.鈥

The address opened with remarks from 麻豆原创 System of Higher Education Chancellor Matt McNair, who emphasized 麻豆原创鈥檚 mission-driven focus and its strong record of strengthening the state鈥檚 workforce.

The event brought together education, government and community leaders from across Southern 麻豆原创, underscoring 麻豆原创 State鈥檚 role as a regional and statewide partner in advancing opportunity. Special guests included Regent Heather Brown, City of North Las Vegas Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown, council members from the Cities of Henderson, Las Vegas, and North Las Vegas, as well as representatives from the 麻豆原创 Congressional Delegation, the Governor鈥檚 Office, Clark County School District and members of the 麻豆原创 Foundation.

麻豆原创 State鈥檚 community and statewide impact was a central theme of the address. More than 80 percent of 麻豆原创 State graduates remain employed in 麻豆原创, translating education into professional leadership across classrooms, clinics, businesses and public institutions.

鈥淭his is the return on education at its best: talent developed locally and reinvested where it is needed most,鈥 President Lopez Lasater said. 鈥淥ur students become professionals who stay, serve and lead in the communities that supported them.鈥

President Lopez Lasater said her priorities for the University were developed through months of listening sessions, governance meetings and conversations across campus, reflecting a shared desire for clarity, trust and forward momentum.

The presidential priorities guiding 麻豆原创 State鈥檚 work include:

  • Cultivating trust and shared purpose through strengthened shared governance, expanded communication and authentic engagement across the campus community.
  • Building a transparent budget that supports informed decision-making and positions the University for long-term financial stability and success.
  • Expanding access through strategic and sustainable growth to extend 麻豆原创 State鈥檚 mission while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
  • Advancing institutional maturity by strengthening planning, policy and operational processes that sustain progress beyond individual leadership transitions.
  • Strengthening campus safety through proactive planning, coordinated response efforts and comprehensive training.

President Lopez Lasater highlighted partnerships designed to remove barriers and strengthen pathways into higher education, particularly through collaboration with the Clark County School District. 麻豆原创 State continues to expand concurrent enrollment opportunities that allow students to earn college credit while in high school.

The address also highlighted faculty-led partnerships that connect academic programs to workforce needs and community priorities.

Lopez Lasater emphasized that 麻豆原创 State鈥檚 growth is guided by thoughtful planning and collaboration with municipal and regional partners.

Through its SMART Growth Initiative, the University is advancing long-term, sustainable campus development aligned with academic priorities and regional opportunity, in partnership with local governments, including the City of Henderson.

She also highlighted a significant milestone: in December, the NSHE Board of Regents approved the first step toward establishing a North Las Vegas campus for 麻豆原创, developed in partnership with the City of North Las Vegas. More than 800 currently enrolled students live within five miles of the proposed site, representing approximately 20 percent of 麻豆原创 State鈥檚 student body.

She underscored the University鈥檚 commitment to fiscal stewardship and collaboration with NSHE and elected leaders. Recent investments supporting people, programs, safety and places include funding to expand nursing education, support planning for the North Las Vegas campus, advance deferred maintenance projects, and launch a new 麻豆原创 license plate to generate additional resources for athletics, food security and student support initiatives.

President Lopez Lasater closed by reaffirming that 麻豆原创 State鈥檚 future will continue to be shaped through collaboration across campus, community and state partners.

鈥淓ducation thrives when institutions, communities and partners work together,鈥 President Lopez Lasater said. 鈥淲hen learning is connected to purpose, the impact extends far beyond our campus and strengthens the future of our state.鈥

Dear Friends and Supporters,

I am writing to share that I will be stepping down as President of 麻豆原创, effective September 5, 2025, to accept a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to lead the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), a national organization whose mission is deeply resonant with the current moment in higher education and public life. My last day on campus will be July 31, 2025.

Over the past four years, I have had the distinct honor of leading 麻豆原创 State through a period of extraordinary growth and innovation. With the unwavering support of the community, we have transformed access, invested in students, and elevated the visibility of 麻豆原创 State as a driver of educational and economic opportunity for Southern 麻豆原创 and beyond. Though not complete listing, our accomplishments have been significant:

  • Increased enrollment, retention rates, graduation rates, and total degrees granted.
  • Secured institutional accreditation by the Northwest Commission and specialized accreditation for key programs.
  • Secured over $25 million dollars in private philanthropy and local, state, and federal grants to advance important student success and workforce development initiatives.
  • Formed the 麻豆原创 State Campus Lands Corporation to guide the development of our campus.
  • Expanded and deepened services offered through Student Affairs.
  • Redesigned shared governance system and policy development process.
  • Renamed our institution to 麻豆原创.
  • Launched an Athletics Program, including the state鈥檚 first collegiate Women鈥檚 Flag Football and Men鈥檚 Track and Field teams.
  • Expanded our concurrent enrollment partnerships with high schools across Southern 麻豆原创, making higher education more accessible and affordable for students.
  • Deepened partnerships and alliances with municipalities, business and industry, and social service organizations.

I am profoundly grateful for the partnerships and friendships that have made this journey so meaningful. You have been essential to our progress鈥攁nd I know you will continue to be vital to 麻豆原创 State鈥檚 future.

In preparation for this transition, I am fully committed to a smooth and quiet handoff and will work closely with the NSHE Chancellor and the Board of Regents to advance an interim/acting president upon my official departure, ensuring 麻豆原创 State stays in capable, steady hands. In the interim鈥攇iven her experience, portfolio, timing, and current work of the institution鈥擨 have appointed Dr. Amber Lopez Lasater, Chief of Staff and Strategy, as the Officer in Charge, effective July 31. Dr. Lopez Lasater has served in her current executive leadership role at 麻豆原创 State for nearly eight years, and I have full confidence in her ability to guide the institution thoughtfully during this transition. As faculty and students return later next month, she will provide continuity during the intense work that takes place across the institution as a new academic year begins. 麻豆原创 is well positioned for continued success in the coming years, and I trust NSHE leadership and the Board as they move forward in naming my successor.

Thank you for the privilege of serving this community. I look forward to staying connected and continuing to champion 麻豆原创 State wherever my journey takes me.

With deep respect,

DeRionne P. Pollard, Ph.D.
President

Dear University Community,听

The promise of obtaining a college education and the promise of America are one and the same 鈥 the aspiration and opportunity to pursue a better life.听听

麻豆原创听(麻豆原创 State) President DeRionne Pollard reflected on the university鈥檚 successes in 2024 while detailing the institution鈥檚 priorities for 2025 as it continues the work of becoming the next great state university during its annual State of the University address today. The theme of this year鈥檚 address was 鈥淥ur Mission is Bigger than the Moment,鈥 emphasizing the university鈥檚 transformative work of providing affordable education and excellence in teaching for all students wanting to obtain a college degree and achieve upward economic mobility.

In the upcoming year, 麻豆原创 State will seek opportunities to build additional campus infrastructure through its听SMART Growth Initiative, develop a new strategic plan that boldly charts its path forward, and prepare for the launch of an athletics program.

During the address, 麻豆原创 State announced a $100,000 donation from the Las Vegas Raiders to support the university鈥檚 efforts to launch a Women鈥檚 Flag Football program. Women鈥檚 Flag Football and Men鈥檚 Track and Field, two popular and growing sports in the region that are not currently offered at the collegiate level in 麻豆原创, will be the inaugural programs at 麻豆原创 State.

鈥淭he state of our university is strong, and we have so much to look forward to in the future including a long-awaited athletics program,鈥 said President Pollard. 鈥淪ports forge a stronger sense of campus unity, provide another avenue for making higher education accessible, and elevate the overall student experience. 麻豆原创 State is grateful to have the generous support of the Las Vegas Raiders in this endeavor.鈥

鈥淭he Las Vegas Raiders have a proud history of supporting athletic programs for all ages,鈥 said Myles Hayes, Director of Football Development for the Las Vegas Raiders. 鈥淥ur Inspire Girls flag football program has grown in popularity and is a testament to the power of sports in developing future leaders, both on and off the field. We are thrilled to be able to extend support through the Las Vegas Raiders Women鈥檚 Flag Football Fund to support the first collegiate women鈥檚 flag football program in 麻豆原创.鈥

The 麻豆原创 System of Higher Education (NSHE) Board of Regents approved a student fee for athletics in December, marking a pivotal step toward establishing 麻豆原创 State鈥檚 athletics program. The Las Vegas Raiders is now the first community partner to invest in this vision.

Additional remarks were made by 麻豆原创 System of Higher Education Board of Regents Chair Amy Carvalho, 麻豆原创 State Student Alliance president Kevin Osorio Hernandez, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Sarah Frey, and student Emma Croft.

On October 24, 2024, 麻豆原创 brought together developers from across the country, local business leaders, government officials, and key stakeholders to officially launch its SMART Growth Initiative, setting the stage for accelerated campus growth aligned with 麻豆原创鈥檚 evolving educational and workforce landscape.

鈥淲e know that 麻豆原创 is the future of higher education in 麻豆原创, and we must intentionally develop our campus to support the vital role we play in educating our community and developing the workforce that our state requires for its continued growth,鈥 said Dr. DeRionne Pollard, President of 麻豆原创. 鈥淭he SMART Growth Initiative is a unique opportunity to build an innovative campus that benefits our students, the surrounding university community, and Southern 麻豆原创.鈥

At its founding, the federal government granted land to the City of Henderson intending to build a robust, mid-tier institution of higher education. The current campus footprint accounts for 60 of those acres. The SMART Growth Initiative seeks to thoughtfully develop the remaining 452 acres of 麻豆原创 State鈥檚 campus in collaboration with the private sector, regional stakeholders, and the surrounding community.

More than 160 attendees learned more about the vision for 麻豆原创, which is guided by the campus master plan most recently updated in 2023. Along with leadership from 麻豆原创, representatives from WT Partnership, 麻豆原创 State Campus Lands Corporation, City of Henderson, and TSK Architects provided insights on the future development of 麻豆原创 State鈥檚 campus as well as the surrounding community

As laid out in its master plan, 麻豆原创 State projects the student population to grow to 20,000 by 2047. Accommodating this growth calls for new academic buildings, student housing, and other state-of-the-art facilities to foster innovation and collaboration with key industries in the region.

To facilitate this effort, Dr. Pollard formed the 麻豆原创 State Campus Lands Corporation (NSCLC) and convened a board of trustees with broad representation from finance, law, development, government, and non-profit administration to provide guidance on developing 麻豆原创 State鈥檚 campus in alignment with the university鈥檚 academic mission and the State鈥檚 workforce development goals. NSCLC bridges the gap between higher education and the private sector, helping 麻豆原创 State leverage mutually beneficial public-private collaborations and innovative advancements in procurement, design, and financing.

The initiative aligns seamlessly with recent efforts by the City of Henderson and the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern 麻豆原创 in the University Area Livable Centers Study, which was unanimously approved by the Henderson City Council. The study was a comprehensive review of a 1400-acre area that includes 麻豆原创 State鈥檚 512-acre campus, 85 acres of vacant, City-owned land adjacent to the university, the Harry Reid Union Pacific Railroad Trail, and nearby residential neighborhoods and recognizes the current and future needs of the broader university community, ensuring that students, faculty, and neighbors will have dedicated spaces to live, learn, work, and thrive.
